Vijaya Shanthi is 43 and married

uch has been said and done about Vijaya Shanthi’s background lately. Thanks to KCR, she became an MP from Medak. Even now she doesn’t like to talk about her age or family. To all the curious Joe’s out there, here are her details according to her own declaration while filing the nomination in recent elections -

Her full name is Vijaya Shanthi.M
Age is 43 years.
Educational Qualification is 10th Class (Thanks KCR once again)
She is married and her husband’s name is Srinivas Prasad M.V.
She finished her 10th class in 1980, which means she acted with Superstar Krishna in Kiladi Krishnudu in her 9th class!!!

There were rumors during her prime time that Prasad, a close confidante of NBK was married to her by NBK and she has a son/daughter from the marriage. Not much is known about the heirs of Ramulamma but rest of the information is declared. Now she doesn’t need to be so shy about giving out her age or marital status.

The real stink behind NTV’s ‘sting'(/www.vilekhari.com)

Elections are over and beating the post-poll dullness has become the most dreaded task for all the Telugu news channels. But NTV is undaunted by this and has quietly upped its TRPs with one smart act of moral policing. The channel’s recent expose on sleaze in Excess pub has caused quite a few flutters.

In a sting operation, the rich and famous — young and old — were caught on camera in their ‘wild partying’ in the pub on the premises of the far-flung Novotel Hotel. Visuals of girls in skimpy and figure-hugging outfits guzzling liquor and gyrating with their partners added spice to the expose. According to the channel, usage of drugs goes unhindered and partner-swapping is the new fad among the pub’s patrons. Taking a high moral ground, the channel pointed to the declining values in our society and accused the police of being a mute spectator to this for obvious personal gains.

Truly, the NTV whistle-blowing is one daring act considering the power of the people it has rubbed on the wrong side. It forced a knee-jerk reaction from the government. Minister for Health Danam Nagender vowed a crackdown soon on all the city pubs.

So far, it just seems like a fantastic work of fearless journalism with NTV being seen in awe for its painstaking effort. But on the other side of the coin, there are quite a few posers that beg for answers. A closer look would suggest that it was simply another sad case of a bitter ego clash between a reticent hotel management and a media house whose top-notch journos are no more ‘welcome’ in the pub.

Firstly, the channel tried to pick out the pub culture as the biggest contributing factor for declining cultural values. Playing a holy cow to the skin, the channel lamented that pubs are corrupting young minds, enticing them into vices. In that case, the channel itself should be considered as the first and biggest offender since it gives ample space for the pubbing activities in its special feature. (As recent as Thursday, the channel ran a feature on sex. Showing hot, steamy film clippings, the programme offered free tips for an eventful romantic life. That’s hypocrisy at its best!)

The visuals of the NTV expose combined with the voice-overs were more provoking than the free-wheeling lifestyle the channel kept clamouring against. The camera was desperate to capture couples in the midst of obscene ‘banana’ dance and the women in micro-minis in their hottest postures. But a gentle caress was interpreted as a shameless display of sexual desires. And a girl from a rival channel waiting with her friends for their vehicle was picked out just when the voiceover talks about the disturbing partner-swapping. Worse still was this blatant attempt. The channel claimed that women are provided access to gigolos on ‘Ladies only’ nights. And to support its revelation, the channel remorselessly showed visuals of unwary women in groups, but filmed on a different occasion.

In the name of washing the dirty linen in public, the channel kept running the visuals time and again, virtually in every news bulletin. This went on for more than a week and even during studio discussions with the so-called custodians of morals and culture.

More than anything, it is the question of ‘why now’ that remains to be answered by the channel and its think-tank. Till yesterday, the ‘party scene’ figured prominently on the channel’s priority list. What makes it a monster overnight? And why Excess was singled out when most of the pubs in the city are known to be frequented for reasons other than partying?

have a nice day
